We're conducting a longitudinal evaluation that follows BUILD PODER and non-BUILD PODER participants across multiple years.

Panel Studies

We're using a five-year panel study that follows students and faculty across multiple years. This means we ask the same group of people to take one survey each year so that we can follow changes in their lives (beliefs, attitudes, work and study experiences) over time.

Our panel includes people who are in BUILD PODER —as well as those who are not—so that we can understand how the Build Poder program might have influenced people’s experiences and lives.

Oral Histories

We're also using oral histories— a method of research that collects people's memories and personal commentaries through recorded interviews—to delve more deeply into student and faculty experiences. Learn more about oral histories.

Each year we'll be interviewing students and faculty who are in BUILD PODER, and those who aren't, so we can compare their stories to see if and how BP might shape people’s experiences during and after college.

Other Methods

Over time, we'll also be looking at institutional data (like whether students graduate and go onto graduate degrees) as well as secondary data on research productivity. These data will help us look at the practical aspects of the program: does it help students graduate and become biomedical researchers?
